Herbie Day
Thank you for your generosity in support of Herbie Day on May 27th, 2011. Herbie Day reaches out into the community, it spreads awareness through the CITY-TV telethon raising much funds to enable specialized care for the world’s children. Your support was invaluable to us. Herbie Day was a success raising $144,000 through sponsorships, a barbecue, merchandise sales, a promotional draw as well as online and call-centre donations.
The BBQ took place on the front lawn of the Hospital on University Ave. and those in attendance were treated to an afternoon of entertainment primarily from school choirs. Gord Martineau from CITY-TV broadcasted live from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and emceed the event. A fun zone was set up in the Hospital atrium where children could play games, do arts and crafts, have their faces painted or photo taken with either Explorer Bear from the Toronto Zoo or Ace, the Blue Jays mascot. The Toronto Zoo even brought live animals with a zookeeper for the children’s entertainment. We were fortunate to have 10 Herbie children, their families and their host families present for a meet and greet. These Herbie patients had recently undergone life-altering surgery at The Hospital For Sick Children and were able to join in the festivities before returning home.
